I am sure you’ve heard of Tulum , the mecca of modern hippies, where everything is harmonious, organic, eco, and trendy. Jokes apart, Tulum is really a truly unique place on Riviera Maya and an absolute must during your vacation.
Still, not many people know that apart from las ruinas mayas, pristine beaches, cool gleamings, and boutique hotels, there is something more you should focus on during your stay in the area: Kaan Luum Lagoon, a sanctuary of beauty and tranquility off the beaten track.
In this travel blog, I’ll take you on a journey to explore this natural wonder and provide all the essential information you need to plan your visit.
Kaan Luum Lagoon is a hidden gem located just outside of Tulum, Mexico. This beautiful lagoon is surrounded by lush jungle and has crystal-clear turquoise blue waters that are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing.
It’s a popular place and more expensive than other cenotes $300 pesos per person ($15 USD) but you can spend there a full day.
There are a few ways to get to Kaan Luum Lagoon from Cancun Airport. You can either take a taxi, rent a car, or book a tour.
If you're arriving at Cancun International Airport, you'll be happy to know that Kaan Luum Lagoon is just a scenic drive away. Renting a car is always a convenient choice, giving you the flexibility to explore the area at your own pace.
From the airport, hop onto Highway 307 heading south towards Tulum. The lagoon is approximately 75 miles (120 kilometers) from Cancun, and the journey usually takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. It’s a straight, wide road, easy to drive.
If you come from Tulum, it’s just a 15 minute drive from downtown.
If you don’t want to drive, you have a few other options. You can book a private shuttle or take a public bus, which are both cost-effective options. Just remember to check the schedules in advance and plan your trip accordingly.
The weather in Tulum is wonderful throughout the year, making it an ideal destination for a relaxing vacation. However, the best time to visit Kaan Luum Lagoon is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to April. During this period, it’s warm and sunny, with almost no rain. The temperatures range from 70°F to 85°F (20°C to 30°C). It's perfect for swimming and enjoying the lagoon's refreshing waters.
However, the lagoon is still beautiful during the rainy season, from May to October. Just be prepared for some rain showers. But remember that heavy rains can lead to flooding and muddy conditions, hindering the full experience of the lagoon's natural beauty.
