Ecological Cabins in Cancun and The Riviera Maya

Cancun and Riviera Maya are destinations in the Mexican Caribbean whose popularity has grown year after year since their foundation in the 70s. Although, initially, these destinations were more focused on wealthy tourists, in the last couple of decades, they have become more affordable to everyone.

Nowadays it can be said that Cancun and the different destinations of Riviera Maya (Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Tulum), as well as the islands (Cozumel, Isla Mujeres), are open to everyone, regardless of their vacation budget. There are different lodging alternatives that can fit to your budget. You can find everything from luxury resorts with ocean front penthouses to modest hotels close to downtown as well as hostels with a wide range of shared rooms and, of course, cabins.

A tourist trend that has become more popular in Cancun and, especially, in Riviera Maya (Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Tulum) is ecotourism. The emergence of Cancun as a tourist destination was planned, but its growth and success has been so great that it has extended over some natural areas. So, after having experienced this situation, the smaller towns have tried to moderate their growth and have a better relationship with local ecosystems: mangroves, jungle, cenotes, etc. Thus, cabins as a lodging alternative is becoming more common in places such as Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
